Sunrise Children’s Association – Nepal

sunriselogo“Fundraising for Sunrise Children’s Association’s orphanage in Kathmandu, Nepal was an  incredibly rewarding and uplifting experience. With the monies raised not only was I able to go  to Nepal to see the changes enabled by the fundraising first hand, but I also got to connect with  children and understand on an even deeper level how important these funds were for their lives  and development.

These children have been given a chance by Emma and the workers of Sunrise, that without a great deal of love and support from people in such a wealthy nation such as Australia, would simply be impossible. And so once my mind was made up that it was a worthy cause to throw my energy behind I began to fundraise.

With the help of family and friends, I was able to hold an event that raised a great chunk of the $6,000 target, and then also fundraised to friends at work, university and in my own life. The key with the event was to keep costs low, and in the early stages I simply calculated that to raise at least $6,000 I needed to engage 300 individuals to donate $20, or only 120 individuals to donate $50.

While some people were able to donate more than that, and some less, it began to add up, and so I managed to complete this task while also studying at University and working full time. So the possibilities of how much someone else can fundraise are really endless, and demonstrate what you can achieve when you set your mind to it. And the best part was being able to jump on a plane at the end of it all and see the children and Sunrise careers first hand, to see the amount of love and potential these children now have for the future, all thanks to Sunrise Children’s Association.” - Joanna O’Reilly, 22 years, Port Melbourne, VIC & Andrew Stubbs, 29 years
